2026 School Registration Is Still Available
Area ISD's and schools wishing to schedule a Challenger mission, Micronaut mission, planetarium presentation or combinations of these should reach out to our center scheduler Lynn at sac-ScobeeCtr@alamo.edu to request information on availability, pricing, and to receive the registration materials. Scheduling does not take place over the phone without the completed registration document. Registration forms, crew manifests, and center maps are located under the Scobee web pages for each program; planetarium presentations, Challenger, or Micronaut missions.
Don't delay as the calendar for the remaining school year is filling up a little more every day!
Planetarium Public Friday Night Shows Resume!
The Scobee Planetarium is open for Friday Night Public Programs this Friday, January 23, 2026. Tickets for this first night of programming in 2026 are on sale now, but do not wait too long as the 6:30 & 8:00 p.m. shows are almost sold out.
Scanlan Observatory viewing will be determined Friday evening due to forecasts for inclement weather.
Challenger & Micronaut Teacher Workshop Change
Due to Freezing weather conditions predicted for this Satuday, the next Micronaut and Challenger workshops have been changed to Saturday, February 7, 2026 8:30 a.m. - 2:00 p.m. If you are registered for the STEM Educator conference on this date, and requiered to attend this training, contact Mariana Zoll. mzoll3@alaom.edu
Hearts on Mars Valentine's Mission
The "Hearts on Mars" couples mission has posted online to start your Valentine's Day weekend!
If you have been left at the launch pad in the past, go to the Alamo Colleges online marketplace mall. The tickets for the mission are now live for the first 18 couples at $135 per couple.
The evening is planned for Friday, February 13, 2026, from 6:00-10:30pm. It will include catered heavy hors d’oeuvres, adult beverages, the Challenger Expedition Mars simulated mission, and reserved seating for the Scobee Planetarium’s 9:30 double feature of “Forward to the Moon” and “Moonbase, the Next Step”. The Scanlan observatory rooftop viewing is not included in this event.

40th Anniversary of the Challenger Learning Centers
January 28, 2026, with be the 40th anniversary of the tragic loss of the Challenger STS 51-L mission and her seven crew members.
From this tragedy arose the Challenger Learning Center network and the dedication to carry forward the educational outcomes of the crew’s mission. In remembrance of the Challenger crew and in recognition of 40 years of inspiring students to expand their visions of the future, we will share events and opportunities available locally and virtually for our community.
•Social media posts recognizing each of the seven Challenger crew members post this week through Monday, January 27th.
•The NASA Day of Rememberance occurs on the 4th Thursday of January.
On January 22, 2026 programs across the country will remember the crews of Apollo-1, STS 51-L, STS-107 and those who gave their lives in pursuit of the exploration of space.
•The Scobee Education Center will remember the Challenger STS 51-L crew in the Holt Challenger Memorial Garden with the placement of flowers on their memorials and the playing of taps at 9:00 a.m. on Wednresday, January 28, 2026.
Artemis Academy Summer Camp
The 2026 Artemis Academy summer camp is partially sponsored by the Armed Forces Communications and Electronics Association: Alamo Chapter (AFCEA) with the intent of providing opportunities that inspire middle students to continue in their pursuits of STEM careers on which the future of Bexar County, Texas, and the United States will depend.
To participate in the three virtual After-School STEM club meetings in the spring anf thr summer camp the week of July 6-10, 2026, campers must "apply" to the program with a teacher's recommendation and the answers to application essay questions. We are seeking additional sponsorships to off-set camp registration fees. If an applicant is accepted, the fees of $100 or less will be assessed at that time.

Completed forms are to be returned to Mariana Zoll electronically at mzoll3@alamo.edu prior to Sunday, March 1, 2026. USPS mailed forms must be received prior to this date.
Planetarium Announcements
Scobee Planetarium Public Programs
Planetarium Tickets are available online one week in advance and may be purchased through the Planetarium and Observatory link on this web site. Tickets are also available through the Lackey Camper-Casper Ticket Booth in the center after the doors open at 6 p.m.
Like other theater experiences, it is recommended that guests check the online ticket sales web site ahead coming to the center to see which presentations are being offered or sold out.

6:30 - “Little Star That Could” - animated family program with no age restrictions
8:00 - Sky Tonight Live! - Live presentation - Children must be 6 yrs or older to attend.
9:30 - “Experience the Aurora" & "Ice Worlds” - Children must be 6 yrs or older to attend.
Tickets are available through our online one week prior for Friday night shows.
