Drama Program Wins Multiple Awards for Production of Cabaret

San Antonio College’s drama program was honored with several theatre awards for its production of the musical Cabaret, which was staged in April 2024.
The honors came from BroadwayWorld San Antonio, a regional affiliate of BroadwayWorld, the largest theatre site on the internet, covering Broadway and100 cities in the United States, as well as theatre communities in 45 nations.
The drama program won awards in the following categories:

Abe Ramirez
Best Direction Of A Musical
Laura T. Garza
Best Ensemble
Cabaret
Best Lighting Design Of A Play Or Musical
Brandon Rosen
Best Music Direction & Orchestra Performance
Hunter Garrett
Best Performer In A Musical
Micah Wolfe
Best Musical
Cabaret
In addition, Garza, a drama faculty member, won awards for Best Costume Design of a Play or Musical and Best Direction of a Play for the Teatro Audaz San Antonio production of Bernarda!.
“We are all honored and excited to be the only college theatre program to be recognized alongside so many other wonderful shows and performers in the Broadway World San Antonio Awards,” said Garza. “This comes in addition to being one of only two colleges recognized at the Alamo Theatre Arts Council Globe Awards held just this past November for our production of Moon Over Buffalo. We are so incredibly proud of all the hard work and talent of our students, faculty and staff here in the San Antonio College theatre program.”
Former student Wolfe, who played Sally Bowles, the lead character in Cabaret, said it was an absolute honor to win the Best Performer in a Musical award.
“This encompasses my time with SAC and my involvement with their all-star drama program! The accomplishments and awards I have won this past season would not have been possible without the support of my incredible professors and fellow students who made everything possible,” she said.
Abraham Ramirez, guest theatre lecturer, also said he was “deeply honored” to receive his award.
“This accomplishment is a testament to the power of collaboration and passion, and I’m so grateful to share it with such an extraordinary team,” he added.
The drama program is preparing its next production, titled “Peter/Wendy.” The play retelling of the story of Peter Pan. The production will staged April 4 - 6 and April 11 - 13 in the McCreless Theater.
