Nicollette Anthony: Made to make a Difference

Nicollette Anthony balances family and education while earning a fully online degree
After a decade-long break from school, Nicollette Anthony felt a mix of excitement and intimidation about returning to college.
“I’m not the typical ‘fresh out of high school’ student, and I had a lot of questions on my mind that were holding me back,” Nicollette shared. “I didn’t know if I was going to fit in or if too much time had passed.”
As a full-time stay-at-home mom, her days were busy but the desire to give her family the best life possible motivated her to find a degree plan that could fit her schedule. That’s when she discovered the flexibility of AlamoONLINE.
“When I saw the Alamo Colleges offered online programs, I thought, ‘This is it.’ It was time to place a bet on myself and see where it would take me,” she said.
Nicollette chose to earn a fully online associate degree from San Antonio College, a decision that aligned perfectly with her life. With no alternatives for childcare, this allowed her to balance her children's needs with her academic goals.
“I loved that I didn't have to compromise all the responsibilities on my plate," Nicolette shared.

“Once I found a routine and learned to manage my time, everything fell into place. I could give my kids the attention they needed while still pursuing my education. |
Nicollette excelled in online courses at San Antonio College. She found a routine and learned to manage time effectively, leading her to maintain a 4.0 GPA. She says it took some trial and error, but she found the right combination of tools for success.
“After taking my oldest son to school, my daughter and I would really get into a routine. Arts and crafts would get her attention while I could complete my assignments,” she said. “The key was scheduling time blocks to focus on studies. My professors were incredibly supportive and always quick to answer questions. It helped me stay on track —it still felt like being part of a classroom."
For Nicollette, returning to school wasn’t just about earning a degree—it was about making a difference in her life and the lives of her children. She says the journey not only opened doors to new opportunities but also helped her discover the best version of herself.
“I’m not just a mom or a wife anymore. I’m finding myself again. I feel more confident, more educated, and I have goals and ambitions,” Nicollette shared. “It’s also empowering to know I’m setting an example for my children. I want to show them that it’s never too late to chase your dreams.”
Reflecting on her journey, Nicollette encourages others considering a fully online degree with AlamoONLINE to “take the leap.”
“Life will throw a million things your way but it’s about fighting to go after what you want,” explains Nicollette.
“The flexibility of AlamoONLINE is undeniable. You can pursue your education while still handling all of life's ins and outs. It was the best decision for me.” |
