The Alamo Colleges District is proud to announce that its 3rd Annual MOSAICO Gala raised $1.3 million to support its AlamoPROMISE program, an initiative designed to eliminate financial barriers to higher education, making a college degree a reality for thousands of graduating high school seniors across Bexar County.

Held on Thursday, March 27, 2025, at the Witte Museum, the MOSAICO Gala brought together higher education champions and community leaders to raise funds for the Alamo Colleges District moonshot – partnering to end poverty through education and training.

By combining last-dollar scholarships and wraparound program support, AlamoPROMISE seeks to enhance economic and social mobility and meet workforce demands by helping students complete college and obtain the necessary skills to hold high-wage, high-demand jobs.

The evening’s program featured the inspiring story of Abram Tenorio, a former St. Philip’s College student and current engineering student at the University of Texas at San Antonio. Tenorio was recognized as the MOSAICO Student of the Year for his outstanding academic success and personal journey as an AlamoPROMISE Scholar.

“AlamoPROMISE is more than a scholarship – it’s been a lifeline,” Tenorio shared. “It gave me the freedom to focus on my education, gain real-world experience through internships, and maintain a 3.9 GPA. Today, I’m on my way to my dream because of the investment this community made in me.”

Dr. Mike Flores, Alamo Colleges District Chancellor, emphasized the community-wide impact of the program.

“MOSAICO is a celebration of what’s possible when our community comes together,” said Flores. “Through AlamoPROMISE we’re transforming the lives of our students, families, and our region’s future. This is our moonshot, and together, we’re proving that education is the most powerful tool we have to break the cycle of poverty.”

The event was co-chaired by longtime Alamo Colleges District supporters Jamie and Travis Kowalski and Amber and Sloan Thomas, with Mayor Ron Nirenberg and Erika Prosper Nirenberg serving as honorary co-chairs.

Barton T. Simpson, Executive Director of the Alamo Colleges Foundation, expressed his gratitude to donors and attendees.

“Every dollar raised at MOSAICO is an investment in a student’s potential and our community’s prosperity,” said Simpson. “We are deeply thankful for the generosity of our sponsors, donors, and supporters who make it possible for the Alamo Colleges to remove financial barriers and empower students to achieve their dreams.”
